Full Description

{1} Cemetery south of the church (around SP499485). In the early 19th century many burials were discovered, including large pits full of bones with a quantity of spurs, and single internments apparently laid out in lines. These remains have been associated with the Battle of Danesmoor (1469) which took place in the neighbouring parish of Edgcote.

{3} Skeletons have frequently been found on a hill on the S side of Chipping Warden parish. To the NW of this spot are Arbury Banks, and in the valley beneath are the remains of Warden Castle (SP 54 NW). Various persons witnessed the discovery of large pits filled with bones, a quantity of spurs; also of skeletons interred singly, the bodies having been laid N to S, and, in another case, E to W; these skeletons were laid consecutively in a line, head to foot. It is suggested that they may be the remains of the slain at the battle of Danesmoore, in the adjoining parish of Edgcott, A D 1469.

{4} More than a furlong south of Chipping Warden church is the site of an ancient burial place (marked "Remains" on the plan).
