Full Description

{1} Two Bronze Age axes found during potato picking, loaned to Banbury Museum.

{2} A looped palstave and socketed axe are said to have been found in 1977 north west of the village.

{3} Found by farmworkers.

{4} In 1981 two further axes were found during ploughing - two palstaves, fresh from what appeared to be the same mould. It seemed very likely that the axes represented part of a founder's hoard. A fieldwalking survey in November 1981 recovered eight axes, finished and unfinished, from the ploughsoil, and one further axe from excavation.

{5} Has a record of 13 late Bronze Age axes - 8 side-looped palstave, relatively unfinished and probably from the same mould, 1 side looped palstave of slightly different form, and 3 side-looped socketed axes, all of different forms. Donated to Banbury Museum in 1983.
SMR note: unsure if these are the ones collected in 1977 and 1981, or 13 new axes from the same area.

{6} Description of axes currently held by Banbury Museum.

{7} Metallurgical analysis of axes held by Banbury Museum
