Full Description

{1} Excavation in 1961 and 1970 revealed Roman stone buildings lying inside and on top of an Iron Age ditch.

{2} There had been occupation of the site before the erection of the Roman shrines. A ditch of a penannular-shape was found beneath the foundations of the polygonal shrine. Although no dating evidence was found in the filling of the ditch, a date in the Iron Age can be suggested by anaology with sites where Iron Age circular ditches have been found beneath temples.
