Full Description

{6} The park was abandoned in 1610. Plan.

{7} Surviving earthwork boundary of deer park. Best preserved on the north side of Great Park, along the line of the green lane (Clay Dick) from Brigstock to Geddington (SP91178394 to SP93558561). Along here, except for at Chase Farm and south of Pale Hill, a well-marked bank, usually between 0.5 and 2m high and up to 4m wide, with a much mutilated inner ditch 3m wide and 0.5m deep, is clearly traceable. Plan.

{8} Sketch plan showing best earthwork survival as recorded in 1982. The park pale is fairly pronounced. The excavation consisted of a 1m wide trench which fortunately included a large post hole, presumably from the wooden paling fence which would have topped the bank. There was also a deer leap just to the east of the excavated trench (shown generally on the plan as in the region of SP924853).

{9} Bank and ditch earthwork observed. (RFP Rapid Survey?).
