Full Description
{1} To the east of the house a shallow ditch may mark a boundary of the late Iron Age/early Romano-British period. Shallow pits, postholes and stakeholes suggest a possible structure.
{2} Trench A revealed a heavily truncated ditch aligned north-west to south-east. It was traced over a length of c.5m across the trench. It was 0.6m wide x 0.1m deep, with sloping sides and a flattened bottom. Pottery sherds of the late Iron Age or early Roman (Belgic) type dating to the C1st AD were recovered from the infill of the ditch. Two shallow postholes c.0.2m diameter were also revealed, sealed by a layer containing 17 sherds of AD C1st-2nd Iron Age/Romano-British pottery. An additional posthole or pit cut through this layer but contained no dating evidence.
{3} A number of shallow pits, postholes and stakeholes suggest a possible structure.
{4} Late Iron Age/ early Roman occupation, residual Saxon elements, Medieval and Post Medieval activity, evaluation by M Shaw.
