Full Description

{2} Possible sheepdip. Overgrown and partially obscured by modern dump is a stonebuilt sheepdip situated on leet bypass channel. Oval in plan with sides of coarsed rough hewn limestone, this approximately 5m long tank occupies the stream base, its lower end having a narrow access on its west side and with a blocked up 'exit' occupying its south (downstream) end. Undated, but presumed c. 18th century in date.

{4} To the east were the overgrown remains of a stone-built sheepdip situated on a leet bypass channel.

{5} J Brace believes this to be a sheepwash and not a sheepdip. This is because is is too large to be a sheep dip, it is on a leat bypass channel and that it is typical of a type of sheepwash described in 19th century literature. Unfortunately this can not be changed on the system to s sheepwash as this is an unrecognised term.
