Summary

A Roman burial was found at the base of the quarry ditch of the Roman road and an amphora was found nearby in Long Buckby parish.

Full Description

{1} Adult human prone burial in rounded ditch base. Partially destroyed by machine. Fieldworker- A Hannan. 13-14/9/1976.

{2} Intact amphora also exposed by machine 10m to the north of the burial and also in the ditch.

{3} Roman burial (SP 608652) in the SW of the parish, on glacial gravel, at 120 m. above OD. Roadwork on the A5, here on the line of Watling Street, exposed a human skeleton at the base of the quarry ditch of the Roman road. A complete Roman amphora lay 10 m. further N also in the bottom of the ditch.
