Summary

Two Viking axes

Map

Type and Period (1)

Full Description

{1} Two Viking battle axes of Wheeler's type VI, dating from the later 10th or 11th century and two spearheads are all said to have been found during the cutting of a road on the north side of Borough Hill around 1850. However it is possible that the spearheads are in fact those recorded as being associated with two of the Saxon burials.

{2} Two Anglo-Saxon Battle-axes from Borough Hill Camp. In the possession of W. Edgar. [See AO:60:381:3B]
