Full Description

{1} The existence of more than one defensive ditch around the south end of the hillfort was revealed.
A substantially-dug ditch was located int renches 3, 4, 9 and 11. In trench 9 it was 4m wide at the top and cur to a depth of 1.9m in the bedrock. No dating evidence was found. The ditch ran roughly parallel with the defences although the distance from the existing earthworks varied in each of the trenches - the outer edge was 14m from the surviving bank in trench 9 but only 0.5m in trench 3, whilst immediatrely to the east of trenches 3 and 4 the line of the ditch appeared to be partly overlain by the existing bank.
