Full Description

{1} 5 hammerstones from Borough Hill Camp; held by Ashmolean Museum.

{3} "Flint implement [see AO:60:381:5] discovered on Borough Hill by T.J. George (Northampton Museum)"

{4} A Palaeolithic implement has been discovered on the hill - a small twisted ovate of developed middle Acheulean type.
In 1932 Edgar made a 'representative collection of flint implements' from within the hillfort. These included leaf-shaped and tanged arrowheads, circular and oval scrapers and notched flakes as well as cores and waste flakes. A chipped flint Neolithic axe is also recorded.
Bronze Age discoveries include three looped palstaves. One was found before 1893 and the other two are labelled 'from Borough Hill Camp'. Part of a bronze sword blade in the school's collection is also labelled 'from Borough Hill Camp'.
Among other unlocated finds from the hill are a metal 'kettle' and quantities of teeth and bones.

{6} Location of finds: Daventry School.

{13} Two palaeolithic hand-axes found between 1904-1911. One listed under 631/0/0 (MNN18826).

{15} A further hand-axe described as a small boldly flaked twisted ovate (Middle Acheulian) from Borough Hill, is in Northampton Museum.

{16} Socketed axe found near Daventry.

{17} Bronze palstave found near Daventry. Deposited in Northampton Museum [Is this the same implement?]

{18} Later Bronze Age socketed axe listed from Daventry. [Daventry is not mentioned in the list of Palstaves from Northampton.]

{19} Northampton Museum records list 2 Later Bronze Age socketed axes and 1 Palstave from 'Daventry' (no precise sites). The former are held by this museum. The latter is in the Dryden Collection in the British Museum.
