Full Description
{1} Drayton Hill. Road works, new bypass December 1968. Third century Roman pottery, dark red fabric with grey-black surface, extremely hard. Horse burial, much burnt material. Oyster shell. No structures. Material possibly brought from elsewhere to convert an old shallow quarry into allotment gardens in the nineteenth century.
{3} Roman material, including 3rd century pottery, horse bones and oyster shells, was found during road construction in 1968. However it is probable that the material was brought from elsewhere when old quarries were filled in during the 19th century.
