Full Description
{1} A bronze socketed axe has been obtained from Wappenham (SP 6245)
{7} Northampton Museum have no information regarding this find.
{8} An old sketch of an unlooped palstave was found at Northamptonshire County Library. Below the sketch is a note saying `Bronze Celt found in Black Mire Farm, Wappenham'. Exhibited in Northampton Museum. The sketch has now been identified with a palstave now held in the museum, but with no provance recorded. Presumably the same item wrongly recorded in VCH 1 902 143 as a socketed axe. The name `Blackmires Farm' appears on modern OS maps.
