Summary

A vast amount of Roman material including pottery and glass was found in the 19th century during work at Towcester Railway Station. Finds held in Northampton Museum.

Full Description

{1} Several coins and fragments of glass were found as well as pottery.

{2} On the site of the present railway station (now closed but building still marked on OS 6" at SP 68914941) was found what was apprently a Roman rubbish heap of pottery, glass etc

{3} 100 different Roman vessels were found in a cutting N of Towcester Railway Station (probably the same site).

{4} Finds of 1864 during development of the railway station. A possible Romano-British rubbish heap at SP68914941. Finds held in Northampton Museum.

{6} Northampton Museum hold a vast collection of Ro material (mainly pottery) from "Towcester Station" site. It is, for the main part, crated and awaiting sorting and classification. The Museum have no precise sites for individual finds. Dr Alexander is believed to be in Oxford.
