Full Description

{1}Trial excavation carried out in June 1991 a large pit and ditch were uncovered both dated to the Roman period. Further ditch to the south all the features sealed by layer of dark earth possibly of agricultural use. Source contains full report and sections.

{4}Within the core of the town virtually nothing is known although the development of significant areas of 'dark earth' deposits from a number of the more deeply buried sites in the south-western quarter may suggest that from the third century onwards parts of the town were used for horticultural activity.
