Full Description

{1} A pit dug through the remains of building 2/3, containing a small hoard of coins of Claudius Gothicus (268-70). The fill was black, very ashy with burnt and smithing material mixed with unburnt stone.

{2}The analysis of monetary exchange can draw on one large published group from the Alchester Rd of 489 coins. This constitutes an important assemblage. This demonstrates with other examples in the area a pattern of coin discard comparable to smaller urban foci elsewhere there are interesting anomalies within the Towcester group that would reward further study.
