Summary
Archaeological watching brief of GPO trenches along Derngate in 1975 identified foundations of a possible medieval or post-medieval building, along with floor surfaces. One of the foundations was of fine ashlar. Floors of clay and earth were observed.

{1}Finds; 1975;Derngate;C12th-C15th pot sherds and RB rim sherd; SP 7580 6034
{2}Wall and foundations of building(S?) along 14m of GPO trench at 0.50 - 1.60m depth. One foundation of fine ashlar and floors of clay and earth were seen. Date probably medieval or early post-medieval. Several tile fragments, a few medieval sherds and one late Roman sherd found.
