{4}A watching brief by M Shaw revealed 10 pits of the 13th to 15th centuries.,
{5} The site was visited as soil was being stripped to a depth of up to 1.7m and features uncovered at the bottom of this cut were recorded. At this depth the features which were all pits cut into the subsoil. The subsoil was variable being clayey in parts but with areas of yellow-white sand; probably part of the mixed deposits of the Lower Estuarine Series and further south than recorded by the BGS. Twelve features were located and pottery was recovered from nine of the pits. Two of the pits were rectangular, stone-lined cess pits. Subsequently the author was called to the site and given a bag of human bones sad to have been recovered from a well. Pottery probably 13th century. Single sherd of Iron Age pottery also found.
