Summary

A timber pipe was uncovered during construction of the Southern Approach Road in 1985. ironstone walls were also observed. The proximity to the former Cotton Mill was noted.

Full Description

{2} Timber pipe located in contractor's trench; comprised single tree trunk 3.1m long & up to 0.42m diameter; hole 0.16m diameter bored length of timber; short lengths cut off from either end of timber & retained in archive. Ironstone walls, predating brick constructions, were noted in the sides of the contractors trenches. Note: this trench lay on or close to the site of the Cotton Mill. The corn mill was demolished in 1742.
