Full Description

{1}{2} Building development observation in 1983, by G.Foard. Passenham Rectory, at SP78023939. The Rectory was partly demolished. Shallow east-west burials observed in the sides of the new footings and trenches along the old walls. At least 12 burials seen, and possibly two other graves. Four abraded Saxon sherds were recovered from three graves.

{3}{5} Finds of 50 skeletons were revealed when preparing vault of church. They possibly equate with those found in an Anglo-Saxon cemetery lying immediately to the south (Mon 1174/2).

{7} Hand-excavation, by the building contractors, of three soakaways and associated drain trenches was monitored. No in situ (pre-modern) archaeological remains were observed, and most of the excavation areas had been disturbed by grave-digging, and in one instance by previous drainage works. Several sherds of medieval pottery were recovered. Human bone fragments were recovered throughout the excavated deposits and these were all reburied with the graveyard. Photographic evidence confirming the former presence of a chimney stack is recorded.
