Full Description
{1} Archaeological watching brief undertaken during topsoil stripping in advance of the excavation of a pipeline. A roundhouse ring gully was identified. It was 10.3m in diameter and most of it was revealed in the trench. It was not identified on the south-west side; possibly destroyed by a medieval furrow. No obvious internal postholes. Pottery from the ditch fill comprised plain sherds typical of the late iron Age-early Roman period.
{2} Positioned within an enclosure which had been previously located from the air. The gully was situated 40m south of Watling Street and it is tempting to see this site as a camp used during the construction of the road.
