Summary

Possible 18th century pottery kiln, part of the Potterspury pottery industry, was recorded during construction work to the southwest of the village of Yardley Gobion in 1968. No in situ kiln structures were identified but the site was identified by deposits of pottery wasters.

Full Description

{2} Footings for new houses revealed layers of wasters of early 18th century date. The wares are similar to those made at nearby Potterspury and may have been made by potters of the same family. Sherds collected by Messrs Ashworth, Cockerill and Mynard. A detailed report will be published by the latter.

{3} Post-medieval pottery kilns (?)(SP 766466) found a little to the SW of the Village, during housing development in 1968. Layers of wasters of C18th date were discovered.

{4} Building contractor reported that 'large quantities of pottery' were found during the construction of houses at Orchard Close, but never reported.
