Summary

Excavation for foundations at Firs Farm in 1965 uncovered a black ash layer containing Roman pottery, bones and tiles.

Full Description

{1} On the east side of Watling Street a foundation pit 5ft deep disclosed a black ash layer in which was part of a Samian bowl, coarse Roman pottery, bones and tile fragments.

{3} Roman pottery including Samian, tile fragments and bone were discovered in a black layer of soil in a foundation pit.

{4} Romano-British pottery included sherds of Samian.

{5} The above finds were made at SP 7810541082 in 1965 by the farmer Mr Adams who retains them.
