Full Description

{1} Finds made in 1878 during building work at SP99987229 on the south side of Newton Road. Probably late medieval and not samian as originally identified. TL001723 is an incorrect location on OS 6" MAP.

{2} Finds on 1878. Medieval pot sherds incorrectly identified as Samian; also incorrectly located.

{4} A quantity of Samian pottery was found in 1878 during digging for the foundations of buildings on the S side of Newton Road (at SP 9998 7229).

(This find is incorrectly published at TL 0015 7227; the true site is shown by Rev O N B and trace).

Some of this pottery was in the possession of Mr Smith in 1924.

{5} He states that it has a greenish-yellow glaze, and it is probably late Md. (not Samian). The find-spot was SP 9998 7229, where there once stood an Elizabethan house.
