Full Description

{1} Trial Excavation of 1986 as part of The Raunds Survey. Late Saxon ditches were set at right angles to the street; possible tenement boundaries. There were a few postholes and slots of the same date to the front of these. A small group of C12th pits was present but no evidence of later occupation.

{2} Excavation on site of Robin Hood Inn revealed shallow ditches (possibly property boundaries), slots and postholes suggesting structural remains. 142 sherds of late Saxon pottery found within the features - 9th century date is suggested. Later activity was confined to three 12th century pits, a gully and a posthole.
