Full Description

{1} A neolithic pit was exposed at SP502332

{2} An early Neolitic pit and several undated postholes were revealed on a ridge of marlstone bedrock.

{3} An early neolithic pit and several undated post holes were recorded on a ridge of high ground. A few fragments of ?Neolithic pottery were found in a dark layer at the top of the pit. Worked flints were found in all levels (identified by Dr. A Gibson cc Early neolithic). The pit was almost certainly left open and silted naturally. Four shallow post holes were recorded some 40m north of the pit. The postholes survived to a depth of 5cm-it was clear that if there had been others they may not have survived.

{5} An early Neolithic pit and four undated postholes were revealed on a ridge of marlestone bedrock.

{6} During the fieldwalking stage, only one major new site was discovered, a scatter of flintwork in Aynho parish. During the fieldwork stage a Neolithic pit was revealed in the same location. This was found on a ridge of high ground c.200m from a previously recorded ring ditch. There were also possible associated postholes.
The pit was 0.8m X 0.45m deep with associated pottery fragments and flintwork. Four shallow undated postholes were found nearby, and other postholes may have been destroyed.
