Full Description

{1} Bronze spearhead found in 1863.

{2} The spearhead is 7.5" long and 2.5" wide. A portion of the wood of the shaft remained in the socket, which proved to be ash when examined microscopically.

{3} Purchased by Northampton Museum in 1980.

{4} Notes 'Barrow' a quarter of a mile north of the church, within which was found a late Bronze Age spearhead. This has not been verified, and there is no barrow-like earthwork north of the church in the area described.

{5} A late Bronze Age spearhead found in the parish in the C19th. Part of ash wood shaft remained in the socket.

{6} There is preserved at the Hall at Canons Ashby a fine specimen of a leaf-shaped spearhead found in the neighbourhood.

{7} 7.5ins long x 2.5ins wide.

{8} Spearhead of Rowlands group 1, it has large lozenge shaped side loops. It is evidently the same item exhibited by Sir Henry Dryden in 1873.

{9} The Dryden's now live in Rhodesia, and the present occupier of the Hall said the implement is still there but he couldn't find it, so an exact classification was not possible. The find-spot is not known for certain and no confirmation for Pevsner's (a) note that it was found in a `barrow' (The prob. Motte at SP 57495091) a quarter of a mile N of the church could be traced.
