Map

Type and Period (2)

Full Description

{1} A human burial orientated south-west to north-east at 0.60m deep; it was sealed by 18th-19th century features; the upper part only was exposed; limestone fragments were packed around the skull; possible medieval or earlier; fragments of other human bone were observed nearby; remains were left in situ

{2}Remains of one or possibly two or more skeletons underlying 19th/20th century layers. Limestone arrangement around head suggests the individual was deliberately interred. Insufficient evidence to determine sex or age of individual. Documentary search revealed that there have been no recorded post medieval or later burials in this area.

{3} A supine human burial of possible medieval origin, with limestone fragmentsclose packed around the skull, was partly exposed during garden re-modelling works. The remains were sealed by up to 0.6m of silty clay. It remains uncertain whether this is an isolated burial or part of a larger burial group.
