Full Description

{1} Mound thought to be post-War but tree stump suggests date of pre C20th; appears in form of boundary exclusion on 6" OS 1st Edition;

{2} Possible grotto; feature appears on C19th OS maps; mound 35 x 24m & aligned north-north-west; possible grotto in engraving of 1750 in position of end of mound;

{3} Mound in Abington Park; NRO maps of 1671 & 1742 show road re-alignments by mound; tracings; also possible road route from Little Houghton to Kingsthorpe runs through parkland; dubious; mound most probably represents spoil heap accumulated from landscaping of park.

{4} Elongated mound clearly shown;

{5} Shows mound as oval enclosure;

{6} Shows oval mound with armoured tank at its south-east corner;

{9} "A mound of earth near the bandstand, so local folklore has it, contains a First World War tank within it. Not so!"
