Summary

A possible Roman and Anglo-Saxon settlement site. Finds of coins and pottery may indicate a Roman settlement site. Burnt bones were also found. Saxon and Early Medieval potsherds were also reported and may indicate a settlement of this period.

Full Description

{1} Large quantities of Roman pottery and coins have been collected from all parts of the village at various times (local information). From here, or from one of the other Roman sites in the parish, may have come the otherwise unlocated Samian and other pottery, burnt bones and coins, all found in 1756, and other coins which were found earlier. Centred on grid ref. TL024795.

{4} Saxon settlement (?)(TL 023798). Pottery of Saxon and early medieval types has been noted.
