Summary

Round barrows said to have existed somewhere in Twywell parish, but were destroyed, probably by ironstone workings. A small Wessex-type grape cup found in 1904 may have come from this group

Full Description

{1} Tumuli at Twywell, now destroyed. Unlocated.

{3} Possible round barrows, unlocated. Said to have existed in Twywell parish, but are now destroyed. Possible findspot for the small Wessex-type 'grape cup' found in 1904 during ironstone quarrying.

{4} A Bronze Age pygmy cup was found at Twywell.

{7} A small bronze age grape cup found at Twywell was lent to Northants Museum.

{8} Both references are to the same object [the grape cup and the pygmy] correctly described by authority 1. On exhibition at Northampton Museum, the records there note 'from a tumulus destroyed in 1904', presumably by ironstone mining.
