Monument record 1974/2/3 - Medieval Fishponds & Associated Earthworks

A group of four fishponds to the south-east of Manor Farm. To the south-east is a bank and ditch, which appears once to have been a bypass channel around them.

{1} Earthworks. A group of four fishponds within, or to one side of the stream. At the south-west end are two long narrow rectangular ponds lying parallel to each other and much damaged by later activity. A larger rectangular pond lies to the north-east. To the south-east of these ponds is a bank and outer ditch which appears once to have been a bypass channel around them. To the north-east is the fourth, larger but shallower pond, with a well-marked dam at its northern end.

{3} The fishponds are circa 0.22ha, 0.10ha, 0.07ha and 0.01ha within the area.

{4} Information from farmer that the ponds were extensively and deeply cleaned out in the 1920s.
