Full Description

{1} Quarrying in 1962 recovered ditches, pits and a possible kiln. Finds included Romano-British pottery sherds, baked clay and worked flints. Jarvis reported a stone structure which may have been a kiln. Field name: Clifford Hill gravel pit.

{3} Area of SP804603. Clifford Hill Gravel Pit. Ditch containing Samian and grey and buff Roman pottery seen during gravel digging 1962. Worked flints. Some baked clay seen, and Mr C Jarvis reported a stone structure which might have been a kiln.

{4} Roman settlement and (?) kiln (SP 804603) SW of Clifford Hill, on gravel at 52 m above OD. Ditches containing Roman pottery were revealed by gravel-working. Pieces of baked clay and a stone structure possibly a kiln were reported.

{5} SP 802603 Gravel Pits. Ditches revealed in 1964 containing RB pottery.

{6} R Hollowell confirmed the finds, but these have now been lost. Site falls in an active gravel quarry.
