Find Spot record 2146/0/1 - Unstratified Romano-British Pot Sherds

A scatter of Roman sherds, including some grey ware was recovered from this location.

{1} Fieldwalking survey found a scatter of Romano-British pottery sherds including grey ware and white fabrics.

{2} TL 000647 The clearance of a fox covert and subsequent ploughing of the under-lying ridge and furrow revealed a scatter of Romano British sherds over several acres. Grey wares and some white fabrics similar to early forms found at Irchester were recovered.

{3} The area lies on high, flat ground which falls to the south east. Due to standing crop only limited perambulation was possible. This produced no Romano British material, only modern brick and a light random scatter of late medieval pottery. No information was available at Newton farm. (The present owners having only recently moved to the district).
Nothing is visible on OS air photographs 71/373/079-078 July 1971 or 75/174/183-4/June 1975.
