Full Description

{1} In 1976 topsoil stripping prior to quarrying revealed two shallow pits, one of which contained early Iron Age pottery. It was possible roughly to examine a considerable area around the pits but no other features were located. Pit 1 was 750mm in diameter and 300mm deep. It had a very mixed fill including some burnt stones and a piece of slag. There were 64 small pieces of pottery found in the pit which came from no less than 12 vessels. Pit 2 was 35m west of pit 1. It was 900mm in diameter and 200mm deep, and had a filling of brown sandy soil containing charcoal. There were no finds from this pit.
