Summary

Site of market cross, moved from its original location near Cross Keys inn to the lower rectory garden in 1820. Only the socket was original, the rest was replaced during the 19th century. Current location of the cross is uncertain.

Full Description

{1} Socket of medieval market cross originally stood here (TL00729712) prior to 1820. It was subsequently moved to the Lower Rectory Garden (cTL00609712). All but the socket is of 19th century date. It is now unlocated.

{3} The present rector the Rev P J M Bryan indicated the lower rectory garden to be centred at TL 00599705 and has in his possession a photograph (of the late 1920s) showing the cross standing by a small pond under a lime tree, but he could offer no information as to its present location.
