Summary

Fieldwalking survey was undertaken and slag and cinders of a possible ironworking site were found. Coins and other Roman finds were also found. [May equate with Mon 311/1/0 c.40m to the east.]

Full Description

{2} Iron slag, cinders and ashes in the churchyard, at Lordley Well and at Redford "interspersed with coins and other unmistakable Roman relics".

{3} Coins and "other unmistakable Roman relics" have been found in the parish, in the churchyard, at 'Lordley Well' and at 'Redford'. At Redford a large area of c.30m in diameter is covered in iron slag and and limestone. No datable finds have been made recently.

{4} Coins and other Roman remains, together with iron slag, cinder and ashes have been found at King's Cliffe in Redford.

{6} Fieldwalking survey was undertaken and slag and cinders of a possible ironworking site were found. Rev P.J.M. Bryan has a collection of smelting material from the area.

{7} Roman coins were found.

{8} The Rev P J M Bryan indicated the site of Redford at SP 9972 9675.

{9} SP 9972 9675: The Rev PJM Bryan (local incumbent) indicated a site in Redford where a collection of smelting material in his possession was found.
The indicated site is under plough; a large area some 30 metres diameter is covered with slag and smelting debris; no dateable finds were made.
