Full Description

{1}Fishpond immediately north of the Manor House on the edge of the River Welland. It consists of a roughly cross-shaped pond 1.5m deep, linked to a branch of the river by a narrow channel but much altered and mutilated.

{3} Depiction of formal garden garden suggests early 17th century landscaping; originally a second basin to the north-west;

{4} A map of 1630 shows the original shape of the pond with a second basin, of which no evidence survives on the ground, to the north-west parallel with the river. The depiction on the map of a formal garden further south suggests that the area around the manor house may have been landscaped in the early 17th century;

{5}A water feature possibly a moat can be detected on the north side of the La Zouch capital manor. This is identified by RCHM as a fishpond.
