Full Description

{1}EARTHWORK; POSSIBLE MEDIEVAL/POST MEDIEVAL SMALL RECT POND; IMMEDIATELY ADJACENT TO THE RIVER, NOTED IN 1875 & INCORRECTLY DESCRIBED AS ROMANO-BRITISH FISH TANKS.

{2}Survey plan shows two rectangular ponds with a channel between them and feeding into the Nene river; labelled as Roman fish tanks.

{3} Length of coursed limestone wall of unknown furnction or date but possibly associated with drain/ tanks shown on 1925 OS and earlier plans. The tanks are of unknown function but one may speculate as to their use re fish management or textile production. Also seen, an earthwork bank, possibly associated with the adjacent pond/drain.
