Full Description

{2} Romano-British settlement comprising a sunken feature and a few sherds of Romano-British pottery dating to the 2nd-3rd centuries AD was found during a watching brief on road development.

{3} Mr Rollings found the pottery when a road corner was being cut back at SP96466881.

{4} Roman settlement (?)(SP 96466881) in the NE of the town on sand and limestone at 240 ft above OD. A few sherds were found in a pit or ditch during road widening...There is also an unsatisfactory record of Roman buildings, said to be baths, having been discovered 'in the easterly part of the Castle grounds', and of a possible Roman lamp being found near the church.

{5} Mr Rollings found the pottery when a road corner was being cut back at SP 9646 6881. He retains the material which was classified by Moore (Northampton Museum).
