Full Description

{1} Location of a possible Roman cemetery near the junction of the A6 and A605 roads at the north end of high Ferrers. It was discovered in the mid-18th century when human ashes, burnt stone and part of a 'Roman urn' were found. These may associated with the major settlement to the west.

{2} On either side of the turnpike road between the north end of Higham Ferrers and the windmill the earth appears to have been dug for the reception of human ashes. To the west of the road stones at a depth of one foot discoloured by fire were noted, together with a fragment of Roman urn.

{3} On Colbeck's map of 1737 the windmill is shewn at SP 9600 6928 and the north end of the town some 200m to the south. The area between these two points has been built over for some time.
