Fieldwalking surveys have found significant concentrations of Iron Age and Roman finds in the wood.

Full Description

{1} Fieldwalking survey recovered Iron Age and Roman pot sherds including Samian, a Roman coin, tiles and pebbles. Iron Age pottery and stones were found found in a modern ditch in the wood. Roman sherds found in 1966. Fieldname: Cold Oak Copse.

{2} Large stones and Iron Age pottery were found in a modern ditch in the wood, and similar stones and pottery have been recovered from the field to the S. Roman pottery has also been discovered here as well as to the W. in Yardley Hastings parish. A Roman coin was found here in 1967

{4}Iron Age and Roman sherds were found in Easton Maudit parish by field walking in February 1966 at SP880572.

{8} SP 880572 Sesterius of Hadrian found nearby in 1967

{9} R Hollowell confirms the above area of finds, he retains the sherds (7/8 in all) and the coin
