Full Description

{1}Features found in 1864 during building operations; a possible Roman iron working site- a possible furnace with bone and pieces of 'Scoriae' (iron slag) up to 30cwt in weight, also an undated iron mattock;

{6}Further evidence that the town may have acted as a focus for craft production may come from additional discoveries of a possible Roman iron furnace under the modern town centre (3802/0/1) and the discovery of a mould for casting a mythological relief found close to the suggested line of the main road some 500m south of the main settlement (3957/0/10).

{7} Now demolished, the hall stood at the lower end of Gold Street, close to the beginning of the High Street, at SP 86627879.
