Monument record 3871/1/2 - Probable area of Iron Age activity, possibly including metal working

Series of pits, one of which had a thin layer of slag in the base, observed during the excavation of a gas pipeline in 1966

{1} Features; Iron Age pot sherds & pits discovered in pipeline tranch; one pit had greenish slag at its bottom; a flint blade was also recovered;

{3} Gas pipe trench dug in 1966. Pits dug into ironstone.Thin layer of greenish slag on the bottom of one of them. Iron Age pottery. A flint blade 3in long was found in one of the pits.
