Full Description

{11}Romano-British inhumations discovered in 1912; 3 or 4 burials of which at least 2 were children; remains found in ironstone workings to north of Kettering; Romano-British lead coffin was found later at depth of 2ft & orientated north-east to south-west; it contained skeleton & quantity of lime within coffin; photographs taken;

{12}Photographs of coffin & inhumation & 2 skulls; poor quality copies from originals held in NRO

{2}A separate area of burials was located within the area of the former quarry to the north (3597/3/1). Three or four inhumations, one in a lead coffin, (again orientated north to south and northeast to southwest respectively), they may have been part of a second cemetery towards the northern fringes of the settlement although Dix (1988, 107) suggests they may be further examples of boundary burials similar to those found at Ashton.
