Full Description

{1} At SP 766 562 near Wootton, Roman material was found during the laying of a large diameter gas pipe in 1966. Burnt stone, roofingtiles and ditches were seen, and late Romano-British pottery was found, along with a coin of Constantius II (355-61 AD).

{3} Features found in 1966, included ditches, burnt stone and Roman roofing tiles; as well as late Roman pottery sherds and a Roman coin of Constantius II (AD355-61) during the laying of a pipeline.

{11} In this area the gas line runs approx EW and to suit its course the northings of the site should read 5609, (the site centre being therefore at approx SP 7660 5609), Mr D Jackson was not available for consultation; the area is under pasture. No finds were made.
