Monument record 4156/1/11 - Roman well and possible building, Rockingham Park

Roman well and possible building recorded in Rockingham Park in 1935-36.

{1} Features revealed 1935-36. Just inside the south-west side of the south bailey was a deep well containing Romano-British pottery and tiles. A Romano-British key was also found nearby. Material in the castle, said to be from the well, is in fact medieval.

{4} SP 86679140. Roman well in which were found a key, tiles, etc. in 1935-36.

{5} The well had to be covered in and the site has been converted into a garden.

{6}Information from the Estate Office led to a correct siting at SP 86669128.
