Full Description
{1} They include one complete and five fragmentary greenstone axes found between Gretton village and Kirby Hall before 1904. NM holds the complete one, which is a Group VI type (PPS, 26 (1962), 262, No. 985); the others are lost;
{3} Neolithic celt and fragments of several others Stone hammer-head. Portion of cinerary urn or food vessel of Bronze Age. Gold coin of Cunobelin. All from Gretton.
{4} The Ne-celt and fragments were found between Gretton and Kirby Hall. The Hammer-head is Neolithic; found in the neighbourhood of Gretton". (Gretton: Name SP 8993).
{8} Stone axe and portions of four others in Northampton Museum; also 'stone hammer head';
{9} Four celts in Brown Collection (2.A.218 TO 221);
{10} Of the above finds, Northampton Museum holds the Ne-axe, the coin, and the hammer-head. Also from the parish of Gretton are exhibited a flint axe and two stone axes. The museum has no knowledge of the pottery of Authority {8} and holds no siting information.
