Summary

A scatter of C3rd to C4th pottery, including Oxfordshire mortarium sherds, fragments of kiln bars and a clay dome were found here in 1973. Probably the remains of a pottery kiln producing reduced wares.

Full Description

{1} SP713661. Scatter of Roman sherds including C3rd-C4th colour-coated and Oxfordshire mortarium sherds were found in March 1973. At one spot (SP71316603) a few sherds of grey, square-sectioned kiln bar and clay dome fragments were found, suggesting a pottery kiln. The material is in Northampton Museum.

{2} A scatter of C3rd to C4th pottery, including Oxfordshire mortarium sherds, fragments of kiln bars and a clay dome were found here in 1973.

{4} (SP71316603) Located during ploughing activity and field walking. Features include an oven floor, flue and square
sectioned clay bars. An amount of clay dome debris and pottery were also found on the site. The pottery finds were mostly reduced wares. This site is probably a kiln although the proof is not conclusive.
