Full Description
{1}{3} Building development in November 1969 south of Manor Farm. Pits and rubbish layers were revealed in an area of sand and gravel. Several finely worked flint flakes were recovered. Numerous burnt cobbles, usually associated with Iron Age sites, were cut into a depth of about 1ft in the centre of a gravel area and this may represent a hearth and floor. Pottery evidence to date is inconclusive.
The development cut into Belgic and Romano-British pits and rubbish layers. Pottery recovered was mainly grey ware with a samian fragment and two mortarium rim sherds of a form usually associated with the mid C2nd. Seven grey ware pie dish forms were noted and two jars were decorated, one with the common lattice marking, the other with a broad band of square notch rouletting below the neck.
{2} Building development revealed pits and rubbish layers, finely worked flint flakes, burnt cobbles and some undated (but probably Iron Age) pottery. Roman pottery was also discovered, including samian, grey ware and two C2nd rims of mortaria.
