Full Description

{1} Finds recovered in 1964 from a sand quarry. Roman and early-middle Saxon pottery, loomweights and slag. The area is now being redeveloped.

{4} Rubbish pits revealed during sand-working contained Roman sherds and spindle whorls. Saxon sherds and loom-wieghts were also discovered. [Quoted grid reference of SP738556 may be wrong.]

{5} Lies outside the boundary of the village.

{6} An important group of early Saxon pottery was collected at Milton malsor in 1966 during sand quarrying, and has not been previously published. The writer visited the site at that time and was shown several pits or hearths containing dark ashy soil and burnt pebbles, as well as Roman and Saxon pottery found in association with them. The features were not recorded but the pottery was deposited in Northampton Museum.

{7} The area indicated is under development, but the previous existence of a sand pit there (one of the Asplin pits) is confirmed.
